'Tis the season of giving! McClellan Hospitality is honored to be joining forces with McClellan Park and The Aerospace Museum of California for The McClellan CARE Holiday Food Basket Program. Read on to learn more about this effort to help local families in need this holiday season!
What is the CARE Holiday Food Basket Program?
The 18th annual fundraiser aims to make the holidays brighter for local families by providing food baskets to those living at or below poverty level. For many of the children in these families, the only meal they may typically receive is the one they have at school -- and lengthy holiday breaks around Thanksgiving and Christmas can make those regular meals even fewer and farther between.
The fundraising effort focuses specifically on families with children in schools that are in close proximity to McClellan Park and The Aerospace Museum of California, including F.C. Joyce, Bell Avenue, Madison Elementary, Dry Creek Elementary and Gateway Community Charter School. We're proud to lend a helping hand to those impacted by poverty, right here in our community!
What do the baskets provide to recipients?
Because our primary goal is to help fight childhood hunger, the program provides baskets filled with various meal essentials. These include food for a warm meal this holiday, a grocery gift card for perishable items and additional food staples that will help ensure families are set for their upcoming two-week winter break. In the spirit of giving, baskets will also include a board game and book for family members to enjoy throughout the holiday season and beyond.
How many baskets are expected to be donated?
This year, we have a goal of raising $35,000 in hopes of providing 350 baskets to local families in need. Thanks to the help of our generous donors from 2018, we were able to accomplish this same goal of making a difference in the lives of 350 families last holiday season!
In fact, since the program kicked off in 2003 we've raised a total of $330,000, allowing us to provide food baskets to more than 3,300 local families in need. With the support of this year's participants, we're hopeful that our 18th year of giving will be just as much of a success.
How and when can I donate?
Thank you for your generosity! We're gladly accepting donations of cash, checks and family-friendly board games through December 6, 2019. 100% of donations will go toward the campaign and are tax deductible, too.
